CPO for South Carolina, according to the regulations outlined by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control for Public Swimming Pools (R.61-51), all public swimming pools must be managed by a certified pool operator. This certification must be obtained through a party approved by the Department, and the operator must adhere to specific criteria set by the Department for approval. The CPO certification class we teach meets those requirements.

Additionally, the operator must pass an examination administered by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, in collaboration with their program, to demonstrate their understanding of the relevant regulations. Furthermore, in Jefferson County, the operation and maintenance of public spa pools must be overseen by a certified operator who is well-versed in best practices for spa operation and knowledgeable about the applicable laws and regulations governing public spa pools, as stated in the Jefferson County Department of Health Rules and Regulations.
The certified operator is responsible for conducting inspections of the pool at least three times a week during its operation, with the results documented in a log book and initialed by the operator.

- Recording of free chlorine, bromine, pH, and cyanuric acid levels
- Daily water testing
- Chlorine levels should range between 1-5 ppm for chlorine and 2.3-11.0 ppm for bromine
- pH levels should be maintained between 7.2 and 7.8
- Chlorine test kit must use DPD method
- No specific requirement for pH test kit
- Cyanuric acid levels should be below 200 ppm for outdoor pools
- Water clarity should allow for viewing of the main drain from the pool deck
- Turnover rates of 6 hours for pools, 30 minutes for spas, and 1.5 hours for wading pools
- Bather load guidelines: for pools, 1 bather per 10 square feet in shallow areas, 1 bather per 25 square feet in diving areas, and 1 bather per 33 square feet on the deck; for spas, 1 person per 10 square feet; no specific guideline for wading pools
- Depth markings required on the deck and within the pool
- Knowledge of these requirements is mandatory for CPO certification.
