Don’t Drink The Butt Water!

Crypto is Contracted by Swallowing Contaminated Pool Water!

This is why we hear about “outbreaks” and facility closures in the NEWS on such a frequent basis. People dip their butts in the pool water. Yes, people should obey the Shower Before Swimming law, but no matter how much a person scrubs their backside with soap before they get in, the pool is still a giant vat of butt water!

Can you imagine taking a cup of water from a stranger’s bathtub after they get out and then taking a sip?

A properly maintained pool is safe to swim in, but the water is NOT safe to drink. Swimming pool water is not potable. Is it all contaminated with crypto? Probably not, but why would you want to chance it. If you’re thirsty get a bottle of Poland Spring. Crypto is transmitted by the fecal-oral route, so rule #1: Don’t drink the Butt water!

Crypto is extremely resistant to chlorine, so maintaining proper water chemistry is not enough. Treating the incident per the CDC’s fecal incident response procedures in case of a diarrheal event (crypto is typically not the concern with a solid stool) is essential in these instances, but this is reactive and is not implemented, obviously, for the unknown contamination folks bring in on their persons.

People do carry slight amounts of fecal matter into the water on their buttocks – back to shower b4 swimming law (YES!!! showering b4 swimming is the LAW for public pools & waterparks) for 1st level of prevention, followed by the best preventative measure: Not Swallowing Butt water.
