UF Acquires Talent From UAB & Within
The University of Florida Department of Recreational Sports has welcomed two new faces to Aquatics and Risk Management. The duo brings a breadth of aquatic as well as risk management knowledge and experience. Jill Faull, formerly of UF New Student and Family Programs, has a unique aquatics background stemming from open water lifesaving (Rehoboth Beach Patrol, Delaware). Michelle December, formerly of UAB and UGA, has diverse aquatic experience at both large and mid-sized universities. The pair succeeds the long tenure of Diane James, previously with the department for over 20 years.
Fresh Faces Emerge at University of Florida Pool
Jill and Michelle are eager to dive into the continuing enhancement of the programs and services uniquely offered across four indoor and outdoor pools. They plan to tackle two significant initiatives within the coming year. First, working to strengthen the Private Swim Lesson Program. A solid foundation was implemented by previous leadership. The new goal is to enhance processes through the use of collaboration and technology to set up the already well-established program to flourish. Besides streamlining the request and registration processes, initial goals include working in tandem with Membership Services staff to provide superior customer service from start to finish. The program is set to reopen requests for Spring 2020.
The Universities newly acquired talent plans to do more than skim the surface
Faull and December also aim to reinvigorate the department-wide risk management program which supports about 600 student employees. Besides continuing education resources, enhancements of initiatives such as equipment safety inspections, staff skill audits, and emergency response drills, are just a few items on the docket for the upcoming year. In order to implement such initiatives, it will take a large team. With the support of a graduate assistant and undergraduate intern, strategic efforts are well underway to redesign and recruit for student Safety Associate positions.

Two of only four people at the Gator Nation
What makes this change in leadership extremely unique, is in the positions themselves. Jill and Michelle have the rare opportunity to step into a role with an abundantly rich history. A role, spanning more than 40 years, which only two other individuals can say they have held. This fresh, new team is excited and willing to welcome all the challenges and triumphs approaching the year ahead.
