Florida Southern College Aquatics – Discovering the Best Practices
There is a lot more to consider when maintaining these colossal giants of competition and wellness than one might think. Pool Operators face a myriad of challenges beyond balancing the mega gallons at a body of water that serves as a recreational, fitness, and sports venue.
At Florida Southern College Aquatics, we prioritize safety and enjoyment for all participants.
Running a college pool is one of the most challenging things about campus recreation. One of the main challenges is we are a collegiate pool and a leisure pool. We have to find ways to ensure students have leisure time in the pool, and to run collegiate and club teams out of it.
The facilities at Florida Southern College Aquatics offer unique opportunities for both competitive swimmers and those seeking leisure activities.
We don’t have a typical chiller like most pools in Florida have, but we do our best with our heaters, aerators, and pool covers to make it work. We are fortunate that the school sees the pool and swim team as a priority, and we are able to maintain our pump room and ensure we are up to code at all times.
Overall, running a pool at Florida Southern College can be challenging, but I feel like we do the best we can with the training and knowledge we have. The hardest parts are the unknowns and things that we can’t control (Things breaking, pump room being old, weather, and high temperatures).
With Florida Southern College Aquatics, we continuously strive to improve our services and adapt to the needs of our community.

Operating a collegiate aquatic facility requires a strong understanding of commercial pool operation, water chemistry management, filtration systems, and public health regulations. Many universities rely on staff members who hold Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification, a nationally recognized training program developed to help aquatic professionals understand disinfection chemistry, circulation systems, and safe facility operation.
The commitment to excellence at Florida Southern College Aquatics sets us apart in collegiate recreation.
